Media Relations and Candidate Training Class
Ron Bain, Publicity Director for the Libertarian Party of Boulder County,
announced today that his Media Relations and Candidate Training Class will
be held on Sunday, March 11 at the offices of the Independence Institute,
I-70 and Denver West Boulevard in Golden.
Bain, a staff member at the Institute, will conduct the training class for
future candidates and their media relations personnel beginning at 1 p.m. on
March 11th. There will be a 20-minute break at 3 p.m., and the class will
wrap up around 5 p.m.
Each person who attends the seminar will receive: a media list starter kit;
a certificate for at-cost photography from Greg LaPoint; actual
participatory training in media interviews with a "hostile" reporter; and
tips on press releases, press conferences, media scheduling, and what to say
when a microphone is thrust in your face.
There is no cost associated with the class, which will be repeated at the
Libertarian Party of Colorado convention in April.
Already about a dozen have indicated an interest in attending the class. Now

To All Media Relations Class
Attendees:
Just a reminder that the Media Relations class is
this Sunday, March 11, starting at 1 p.m. (be on time -- I'll have to hold the
self-locking door open).
The address is: Offices of the Independence
Institute, 14142 Denver West Parkway, Building 51, Suite 185. The phone number
at the Institute is (303) 279-6536; I should be there by noon or 12:15. This
location is the NW corner of the intersection of I-70 and Denver West
Boulevard.
From Denver, just I-70 west to Denver West, exit,
stay in the exit lane, turn right at Denver West Parkway, turn right into the
parking lot.
From Boulder, take Broadway/Hwy. 93 to Golden. Stay
on the continuous road, which they start calling Hwy. 6. Stay on Hwy. 6 to the
intersection with Colfax/Hwy. 40. Turn left on Colfax. Watch for the upcoming
intersection with I-70, turn left on to I-70, exit immediately on Denver West
Boulevard. Take a left at the top of the exit ramp, pass over I-70, move to the
right hand lane, turn right on to Denver West Parkway, turn right into the
parking lot.
From DTC/Littleton, my ability to give directions
is not great, but the intersection of C-470 and Colfax is very nearby. If you
can get to that point, just follow the directions for using Colfax to get to
I-70. Those of you travelling from this area might want to use
Mapquest.
Bring: yourself. Water and soda will be provided.
Some snacks are available, but if you think you'll get hungry, you might want to
bring a brown bag lunch. I will be providing each attendee with a Media
Relations Primer notebook full of media addresses, how-to information,
proofreading and writing exercises, papers on using technology strategically,
and examples of Libertarian successes in the media.

aside and joining me in this attempt to improve the media relations capacity of
the Libertarian Party. I think you will all find it rewarding and
informative.
