Starfest: General information for participants – 4/16/01

Dear Starfest participants:

My first request: If you suspect that you can't make your allotted time, please let me know NOW. If you can't make it then I want to try to drum up new people.

Second: Please place the following phone number where you can get access to it: 303-912-9356. That's my cell number.

When you get to the hotel ask the registration desk (or anyone knowledgable) where "E Bay" is. (E Bay has nothing to do with the internet auction site.)

Set up starts at 3:30 P.M. on Friday. This means that the booth will be unloaded at 3:30. It takes about two hours to set up the booth. If you are doing booth set up DON'T BE LATE.

The show starts at 6:00 P.M and the booth MUST be ready by 6 P.M.. Elizabeth Bennett, please bring your cell phone! Elizabeth will be my show floor contact that evening.

I will be at the show on Saturday and Sunday morning. Please meet me at the "terrace" (Plan B) (see above) no later than 9:45. If you are late, contact me by cell phone.

I'll also be coordinating the ticket hand-off at the Saturday and Sunday 2 P.M. shift change-over.

Friday evening shift: I need SOMEONE to volunteer to get the badges to me (or to meet me near Boulder) so that I have badges for Saturday morning. THIS IS CRITICAL!

Saturday afternoon shift: Please make sure that you give all the badges to Ari Armstrong and he will get them to me that evening so that I can have them ready Sunday morning.

We have a couple of "ticket available" slots left. If someone wants to come down and help out then we can get you in for "free."

Last, who among you who has given your cell numbers to me is willing to have the cell number published here so that people can contact us on the show floor in case of an emergency?

If you walk away from the show with a badge then someone else will not be able to get in unless they pay. A badge costs $25. Please do no lose the badge and plase make sure to hand the badge to the person responsible for getting them to me the next day.

We have 5 badges to collect!

Dress: I will be in comfortable clothing. If you can and if you want to, please come in costume.

In case you don't know what I look like, I'm an ugly version of Jaba the Hut.

Ralph Shnelvar

Dear Lovers of Liberty:

Starfest is a science fiction convention that draws somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000 attendees. See http://www.starland.com . I just spoke to Starland (the coordinators of Starfest) and they are expecting 3,000-5,000 attendees each day.

The Convention information is:

April 20-22, 2001
Holiday Inn DIA Convention Center
I-70 & Chambers Rd, Denver CO

I'd like to get at least three volunteers for each slot and preferably four. What I'd like to do is have it so that people could wander for an hour at the show and then work the other three hours so that we always have three people at the booth.

I also need someone (or several someones) to help put together some hand-out literature and, perhaps, to be able to get and sell libertarian-oriented science fiction.

Pick one or more 4-hour slots.
